After twenty years of collaboration, Hebdoprint, a Hersant Media Group Subsidiary has shown its continuing confidence in Quark by upgrading its entire computing facilities, purchasing 700 user licenses, 550 of which are for Hebdoprint.

The company only selected the Quark® solution after analyzing all available offers, looking at what the new version of this application could provide and how QuarkXPress® 7 could be integrated into proprietary editorial production work flows. “QuarkXPress 7 quickly became the obvious choice”, says Charley Lecat, Technical Director of Hebdoprint. “It made sense from a technical point of view and it builds on our past investment.”

"One of the major factors in favour of the move to QuarkXPress 7 was the speed with which Quark released a version for Mac® Intel®. Quark pulled off a major coup by producing a Universal version of QuarkXPress almost immediately”, added Charley Lecat.

Hebdoprint — a subsidiary of the Comareg Group created in 1968, and itself a subsidiary of the Hersant Media Group (former France Antilles) — is the leader in free advertising newspapers in France, producing and printing 256 free newspapers and weekly journals, including ParuVendu (the leading classified ad paper in France). It’s easy to understand that weekly and annual production flows are enormous: no less than 300,000 tabloid pages per year; the creation and production of 85% of the advertisements published in the different publications — nearly 20,000 ad layouts a week; and the creation of 40,000 ready-to-print PDF files per week. All in all, 17 million copies every week, 52 weeks a year.

“QuarkXPress 7 generates much more reliable and secure PDF files than those generated by rival software manufacturers. And, as the first company to use PDF files in exchanges with our printers back in 1992, we’re hard to satisfy”, he explained. “When you generate 40,000 PDF files a week, the file restitution of exported data is crucial. And we must admit that QuarkXPress 7 works well!
