Enhanced creativity
The group of designers at Chien Jaune Studio exploit the innovative features of QuarkXPress in their print designs
The Chien Jaune design studio was set up nine years ago by a group of freelance graphic designers from different backgrounds, such as architecture and photography. From the outset, all these designers used only QuarkXPress® for their Flash®-based Web designs.
The diverse nature of the Chien Jaune Studio designers makes it possible for them to offer a wide range of services to clients such as Sky Consulting, Osé, The Environment and Energy Conservation Agency, and the French Football Federation. Chien Jaune Studio uses both Mac® and PCs along with a variety of applications such as Photoshop®, Illustrator®, QuarkXPress, Flash and Dreamweaver® to produce everything from flyers to full scale graphic identities (print and Web).
Quark® expert Laurence Carbonnel first came across the QuarkXPress page layout application during a training session back in 1995. “Ever since, we have adopted every upgrade”, she explained, “to keep pace with the latest new features and to be able to pass them on in the training sessions we organise.”
Following the example of their guiding lights in graphic design — Jean-Paul Goude, Albert Watson and Michal Batory — Web design specialists Laurence Carbonnel and Alice Martin prefer to explore new territory rather than mimic current trends. “We like to look at things another way around”, they tease, “and QuarkXPress helps us be much more creative thanks to its transparency effects and drop shadows. I particularly like being able to export PSD files so that I can play with the layers, as well as the new PDF export features.”
