Digital publishing is breaking on to the scene with an ultimate force that only Chuck Norris should have the authority to command. Bolstered by the incredible sales of tablets (read iPad — and maybe the android… but if we’re really honest, it’s all about the iPad), the evidence is overwhelming that this is the next step for those of us who humbly call ourselves graphic designers. Understanding the in’s and out’s of digital publishing is in our best interest and will inevitably be what separates the men from the mice.... more
Designing for a cause

Designers are naturally empathetic. We need to experience empathy so that we are able to connect with our audience when creating designs and brands that survive off of the emotional connections the customers/users of whatever product experience. It is very important to stay in touch with those feelings and let them guide you in your design and life. Just like musicians, a vocalist without any emotion in the words they are singing sounds very monotone and boring - so too is it with design. Practicing what you preach is the best way to really support your feelings and by extension your work. Offering pro-bono work to a charity or creating a campaign, funded out of your own pocket, to raise awareness for a struggling non-profit are just a couple ways of living empathy...... more

I’d like to introduce the newest member of this great design and communication family tree — Digital Publishing. It’s like traditional publishing and the Web got together one night. With the candles lit and rose pedals spread around the room, they got a little freaky and consummated the marriage.
